Oh my gosh-- sorry for not posting last week! Coming back from Utah sure took some time adjusting back to "real life" (#conventionhangover, am I right??). Anyways, I just HAD to share about my amazing annual trip out to Utah for the Young Living Essential Oils Grand Convention and to see my high school best friend, Christina!
So far, I have been making this trip solo, so it takes all my courage to calm my anxiety, but I always oil up before the trip and during the trip. Once I see those clouds, I'm usually cool as a cucumber and depending on the time of the flight, I either make myself sleep for the whole flight or watch a few movies. This was a sleep kind of flight. :P
Once I got to Utah, sweet Christina and her hubby Jackson graciously picked me up and we headed to their place. I should mention that I always fly out earlier because I get altitude sickness and I love being able to see Christina and Jackson every year, so I flew out there on Saturday even though Convention doesn't technically start until Tuesday.
This year, I got in pretty late on Saturday and I usually need about 1-2 days of rest or easy days to ease my body into Utah's altitude, so we didn't get to explore Utah too much this year, but last year, we went to Park City and a beer festival at Snowbird. Y'ALL! You guys NEED to check out both places! They make me want to move to Utah tomorrow! Nevertheless, we had a great time together and I got to see such beautiful flowers on our walks!
Okay, so after spending some amazing days with my badass gal pal, Christina, it was time to get ready for CONVENTION! Because I was already there, I was able to attend the AromaSharing Vendor Event that was happening Tuesday and Wednesday. This is an event that is technically separate from Young Living's Convention, but is hosted by a YL Gold, and most Convention goers know about it. The price ahead of time is $3 (+ fees) ahead of time and $5 at the door with vendors in two rooms at the downtown Hilton hotel. I love that I got to attend this event on Tuesday because there was like.. NO ONE there! There were a few people here and there, but the majority of people weren't flying in until the next day, so it was nice to walk to halls with some space. We did end up going back the next day because our wristbands were good for both days, but my goodness was it SO much more packed! Plus, a couple of booths had already sold out of items. Our group plans on flying in a bit earlier next year so we can go to the event on Tuesday and spend some time together as a team!
Okay-- so onwards onto the actual Convention part! The first thing we did after the AromaSharing Event was to head over to the Grand Ballroom to register and pick up our badges/swag bags. I swear, Young Living outdoes themselves every year! Last year, we got these cool backpacks and oil bag holders, but this year, we got these gorgeous messenger bags that had a front pocket for ESSENTIAL OILS + a CoalaTree Kachula Adventure Blanket + a Fulfill Your Destiny pin + a brand new blend just for Convention attendees called "My Destiny"! How awesome are they?? Also pictured, if you donated and signed up for the Color Splash Run to support the Young Living Foundation, you received a cool t-shirt + 15ml of Peppermint EO + a wristband good for Einkorn pancakes!
After that, Christina dropped me off at the hotel and I got to meet my roommates that I had never met before, two of whom aren't even on our team-- although that is the beauty of Young Living! I'm not going to lie, I loved them all immediately. Hannah and I Marco Polo video chat almost every day, so I "knew" her, but I didn't know her. Krystal was introduced to us through another teammate Sara, and unfortunately, Sara couldn't join us for Convention this year, so we found Akiko in a YL Rooms and Tickets group! How beautiful are these ladies?!
Pretty much after that day, workshops, Farm Days, and the Expo started so our days were filled! The first place I went to was the Expo because I knew that it would fill up quickly and things would sell out quickly.
Check out how beautiful the Expo was this year!
Okay, so that was just a peek into the Expo, but it was AMAZING, y'all! Insider tip: if you signed up for a workshop and it isn't all you thought it would be, skip it and go get some goodies and information at the Expo!
In the evenings, we had what were known as General Session. Think of this as a workshop that EVERYONE attends. This is where they announce all the new products (one of my favorite nights!), talk about the Foundation, share some science and growth about the company, and there is usually some form of entertainment. This year it was an interesting singing and dancing performance by some of the YL employees and the Young family. The last day is always the concert and this year, they had Carrie Underwood, but I had to fly out early so I missed her :(!
Convention is ALWAYS such a good time! The swag, education, and meeting new people is always great, but hanging out with our awesome team and strategizing for the coming year to grow + bonding is always my favorite. I could give you a ton of reasons why you should get to Convention, but I hope this blog post gave you just a few. If you are an entrepreneur with YL and you're NOT going to Convention, you're seriously doing yourself a disservice!
Okay, so let's talk budget, because you've realized how life-changing Convention is and you want to join us out there! This is what my budget looked like (traveling from Massachusetts to Utah), not including buying swag and some hacks to make it more affordable!
1.) Flight: $183.45 -- I know that sounds crazy low, but since I know I am going every year, my husband and I saved points accrued from his business trips and basically got one flight for free. ALSO-- one of my flights I booked with Delta and YL has a 10% off code every year for Convention attendees!
2.) Food: $72.63 for 5 nights -- I am a subscriber to Thrive Market (think of this as an online Costco, member prices, for healthy snacks and products). Every year, I fill a box online with protein bars, fig bars, dried fruit, trail mix, chips, and some sort of "better for you" sweets and ship it out to my friend, Christina. Of course, if you aren't staying with a friend when you get there, you can always ship it to the hotel! ALSO-- we stayed at a hotel where breakfast was free and they had a happy hour with free wine and beer almost every night except Saturday, so we just used the snacks we brought for lunch/snacking in the middle of the day.
3.) Hotel: $81/ night -- (be forewarned, we waited too long to book our rooms this year and spent too much on our room. It will already be less next year). We reserve rooms with 2 queen sized beds and always have 4 girls bunking together, so we split the cost 4 ways! Don't have enough people on your team coming to fill the rooms? Don't worry! There are ALWAYS people looking for roomies! That's how we found Akiko last minute and we are so blessed to have found her!
4.) Ticket: $149 -- I always buy my ticket at the early-bird price! For me, it's a no-brainer because I can always sell my ticket to another teammate or YL person. Get your 2018 early bird ticket here!
*Basically, if you put $20 in a envelope every week from now until Convention, you'll have MORE than enough to pay for your trip and have spending money!
Well oily friends, did I miss anything? Please feel free to add them in the comments below to help everyone new coming with us out! Also, please reach out to me with any new questions you might have!
So who's coming with us next year?
Work hard, play hard at Convention,
